BAKERSFIELD— Actor and singer/songwriter of hits like ‘Me and Bobby McGee,’ ‘Sunday Morning Coming Down’ and ‘Help Me Make It Through the Night’, Kris Kristofferson will making a stop in Bakersfield to help raise money of the United Farm Workers (UFW) on June 19.
In celebration of the UFW’s 50th Anniversary Kristofferson donated six concerts on his tour. The event will be held at The Fox Theater located at 2001 H Street in downtown Bakersfield.
“It’s an honor for me to share my talent with an organization such as the UFW and its cause of advancing the lives of thousands of workers that put food on all of our tables,” said Kristofferson, in a press release. “Joining forces with renowned Latino performers through these special performances offer fans great music with a great cause!”
Other tour cities include San Diego, Fresno, Stockton, Oxnard and San Jose.
Joining Kristofferson in donating their performances will be Los Lobos, a multiple Grammy Award-winning American Chicano rock band from East L.A. Los Lobos are famous for songs like ‘La Bamba’ and ‘Mariachi Suite” from the movie Desperado and comedian Gilbert Esquiuvel.
“We ask for our community to help make this fundraising event a success and raise money so these farm workers can improve their standard of living,” said Tanya Leonzo, UFW Secretary Treasurer’s Executive Assistant, ”Not only will they be donating to a good cause, but they will also be enjoying the beautiful evening with great performances.”
The event will be familiy-oriented. The expected audience will be a mixuture of country fans and older Chicano crowd, according to Leonzo, as well as any UFW supporters.
