Valley Clean Air Now is offering free emissions testing for San Joaquin Valley residents this weekend at its Tune In & Tune Up event.
Thanks to the Valley Air District, the first 525 drivers who come to the event will receive emissions testing. If your car doesn’t pass the test, you’ll receive a $500 voucher for smog repairs at a participating STAR certified smog shop in the area, according to the event’s Facebook page.
Don’t forget to bring your registration. If you don’t have a registration, bring documents related to the vehicle: a title, insurance paperwork or a recent invoice from a repair shop. If your car has recently failed a smog check at a local smog shop, bring your failed Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR) to the event.
At the event, you can learn about the Vehicle Replacement program, where you may be able to trade in your old car for an electric vehicle.
If your car is 1999 or older, and you are interested in Valley Air’s replacement program, bring copies of two years registration; two years proof of insurance; vehicle title; first two pages of 2017 1040 tax return; a PG&E bill if applicable; and your driver’s license.
The event also features educational booths, free food and music at 8 a.m. while supplies last.
The event begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the Kern County Fairgrounds, 1142 S. P St. Gates open at 7 a.m. Expect a two-hour or longer wait time. The event only provides emissions screenings. No official smog certificates will be issued.
