The Department of Child Support Services in Kern County invites the public to its 10th annual Ready-Set Back 2 School event taking place this week.

The Ready-Set Back 2 School is a free Health and Wellness Fair that connects parents and families in the community. The goal of the event is to ensure no child is struggling to start their school year. This year, Child Support is prepared to hand out 5,000 backpacks to students in the community, a news release said.

Among free backpacks filled with school supplies (while supplies last), families will also have access to free immunizations and haircuts, nutrition, medical and dental counseling services and services for the disabled and veterans.

Children Kindergarten-12th grade must be present to receive a backpack.

The event kicks off at 9 a.m. on Thursday, August 8, at the Kern County Fairgrounds, 1142 S. P St.
