Health officials confirm 8 new COVID-19 related deaths

The Kern County Public Health Department confirmed Friday eight new COVID-19 related deaths — the most ever confirmed in one day.

There are now a total of 97 deaths in Kern County.

Health officials also confirmed 216 new cases of COVID-19 in Kern. This marks the third day in a row of health officials announcing more than new 200 cases per day.

There are also 215 COVID-19 patients in the hospital, according to the California Department of Public Health; however, 138 of these patients are in isolation in the hospital and 58 are in the intensive care unit. There are 81 ICU/NICU beds available, according to the CDPH.

There are now a total of 6,205 COVID-19 cases in Kern. While 4,088 people have recovered, there are still 2,018 active cases.
