Census Bureau to fill 700 jobs in Kern, accepting applications now

July 13, 2020 /

The U.S. Census Bureau is looking to hire 700 workers for temporary jobs available in Kern County for the 2020 Census and is accepting applications online.

One of the job positions available is Census takers, who will visit households that have not responded to the census. Census takers will speak with residents to collect Census data.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, census takers will follow local public health guidelines when they visit households and will be wearing masks. Census takers must complete a virtual COVID-19 training on social distancing protocols and other health and safety guidance before beginning their work in neighborhoods.

Other jobs available through the regional office include survey statisticians, administrative staff, clerical staff, and IT staff.

The regional office is looking to hire local residents because they are the ones who know their community best, the Bureau says on its website.

Those interested in applying for these jobs can do so by applying at  2020census.gov/jobs or by calling 1-855-JOB-2020 (562-2020).

If you have not already responded to the Census, you can do so online at 2020census.gov, by mail or by phone by Oct. 31.
