‘Bans off our bodies’: local organizations mobilize to support abortion access

May 12, 2022 /

The rally was organized by Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, the Dolores Huerta Foundation, Kern Sol News, Women’s March Kern County, Crimson Skye, Bakersfield Aids Project, and champions for reproductive freedom in Kern will take place Saturday, May 14, at Jastro park at 2900 Truxtun Ave in Bakersfield, California.

“Support for abortion access is at a record high — 8 in 10 Americans want abortion to be legal,” the organizations wrote in a press release. “This day of action will send a loud and clear message to politicians: Banning abortion is unconstitutional, dangerous, and deeply unpopular. We will not stand for it.”

This national day of action approaches as all citizens of the United States prepare for a Supreme Court decision this summer on a Mississippi abortion ban that could overturn Roe v. Wade, which guaranteed the right to abortion nearly 50 years ago. So far this legislative session more than 500 abortion restrictions have been introduced in 41 states.

Saturday’s rally has a 12 p.m. meet-up time and a 1 p.m. start time.
