Shelter-in-place order issued east of Taft

The Kern County Fire Department has issued a shelter-in-place order due to a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) release occurring east of Taft. Residents are urged to remain indoors, as exposure to the vapor cloud can result in severe health issues.

Please follow these safety precautions: –

  • Stay inside and do not venture outside until further notice.
  • Close all windows and doors.
  • If safe, bring pets indoors.
  • Disable any ventilation systems, including air conditioning units or swamp coolers.
