On Tuesday evening, community members gathered in solemn remembrance of 15-year-old Prince Michael Banner, who tragically lost his life in a recent shooting at the Marketplace shopping center in Bakersfield. Friends, family, and supporters came together to honor his memory, sharing prayers and stories that painted a picture of a young life lost too soon.
Organized by the Bakersfield chapter of the NAACP, Mothers Against Gang Violence, and the Wendale Davis Foundation, the event honored Prince Michael Banner’s life. It urged the community to recognize the importance of protecting youth from violence.
Xenia King, president and founder of Mothers Against Gang Violence, emphasized that this tragedy is more than just a crime — it’s a call for the community to pursue real change.
Banner’s mother also spoke at the vigil, expressing gratitude for the community’s support during her loss. “My baby was my baby,” she said. “I know he was special to every single last one of you out here.”
A GoFundMe has been set up to support Banner’s family during this difficult time and can be found here.
On November 5, 2024, Banner was fatally shot. Shortly after the incident, Albert Briseno Jr., also 15, turned himself in to authorities.
