Delano schools stand against ICE raids

January 17, 2025 /

On Monday evening, Delano Union High School District held a meeting to approve Resolution #2024/2025-07 in support of students and families in Delano.

The Central Valley in the past two weeks has been left in an uproar of ICE Raids conducted by agents who detained over more than 300 people, separating families and creating fear among communities.

The resolution the High School District proposed established that all districts in Delano would be considered safe; as many have expressed their anxieties amid the presence of Border Patrol and operations in surrounding areas.

Under SB 48, ICE is prohibited from entering school campuses. The bill also forbids the sharing of any information of students and parents to ICE officers.

In the resolution, Delano High School District emphasized that should any Border Patrol agent request such information it will be shared with the Superintendent for further review to ensure the safety of students.

Delano has since been the first city in Kern County to become a sanctuary city.
