The Kern High School District (KHSD) will offer free weekly meal kits to local youth this summer to ensure continued access to nutritious food during the summer months. The non-congregate Summer Meal Service is open to all children ages 2 to 18 and will be available every Wednesday in July.
Distribution begins July 2 and continues weekly through July 30 at four locations:
Arvin High School – 900 Varsity Rd, Arvin
Independence High School – 8001 Old River Rd, Bakersfield
Kern Valley High School – 3340 Erskine Creek Rd, Lake Isabella
KHSD Central Kitchen – 3701 East Belle Terrace Way, Bakersfield
Families can pick up meal kits from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on July 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. Each kit includes a variety of breakfasts and lunches, with a maximum of five meal kits per household, available while supplies last.
The non-congregate model means that families can take the meals home rather than consuming them on-site, a format that improves accessibility and supports working families in rural and underserved communities.
KHSD officials say the program is part of a larger effort to address food insecurity during the summer months, especially for students who rely on school meals during the academic year.
