Kern County health officials announced the highest number of COVID-19 cases Tuesday since the pandemic first hit Kern County in March.
Local health officials say Kern is expected to receive 5,850 doses of the Pfizer vaccine by the end of the week.

With COVID-19 spreading at a dangerous rate throughout the state, and multiple regions of the state now under a mandatory stay-at-home order, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services will issue region-wide emergency alerts at noon on Tuesday, asking residents to stay home except for essential activities, according to State officials.
The State reported over the weekend that the San Joaquin Valley Region’s ICU capacity fell below 15 percent, resulting in a Stay at Home Order going into effect in Kern County.
Last week, a federal judge condemned actions by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that showed a “deliberate indifference to the safety of the detainees” at Mesa Verde ICE Processing Center and resulted in a COVID-19 outbreak.
