New program to fund home repairs for eligible Bakersfield homeowners

Bakersfield residents that are in need of home repair can now apply for the city’s Home Repair and Weatherization program — a program that allows Bakersfield homeowners to receive up to $15,000 in free home improvement assistance to preserve the health and safety of their homes. 

This program was created in response to the negative public health and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic to provide grants to homeowners disproportionately impacted and burdened by the pandemic.

In order to apply for the program, residents must have proof of income, mortgage statement, grant deed/deed of trust, homeowners insurance policy, photo ID, and current property tax bill. There is no fee required to apply.

The Home Repair and Weatherization Program is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act, specifically through the City’s Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds. Once funding is exhausted, no other applications will be considered or accepted.

The application form is available as a fillable PDF document that must be completed in its entirety, printed, originally signed, and submitted back to ECD Staff for review via the Program website or emailed to bguzman@bakersfieldcity.us.
