Local coalition continues to spread vaccine equity in Kern County

Since receiving their funding from Public Health Institute’s Together Towards Health Initiative, the United Against COVID-19 (UAC) Coalition has helped over 3,000 residents of Kern County’s hardest hit communities receive their COVID-19 vaccinations.

The UAC Coalition’s goal was to implement door to door canvassing, outreach, and education to Kern County communities most impacted by COVID-19. Additionally, the UAC Coalition is distributing PPE, and providing a range of other services in a variety of languages with cultural respect.

Vaccine equity continues to be a prominent goal among the UAC Coalition as many locations are chosen with the hopes of reaching more rural and indigenous communities and agricultural workers.

According to the Kern County COVID-19 vaccine tracker, as of November 28 47.96 percent of Kern County’s eligible population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. 54.38 percent of the eligible population has been vaccinated with at least one dose.

The UAC Coalition is continuing to urge the unvaccinated public to take the leap and receive their vaccine in order to help Kern County battle the COVID-19 pandemic. Vaccination clinics that are being hosted by organizations within the UAC Coalition will be held on the following dates:

No appointment is needed to attend any of the upcoming clinics and each clinic will provide attendees with masks, sanitizers, and additional community resources until supplies are exhausted.

The vaccination clinics are free to the public and will offer first, second, and booster doses to those interested in a vaccine. Vaccination clinic attendees— and their parties— will also be provided with free food.

Organizations in the UAC Coalition include: All of Us or None, Building Healthy Communities Kern, Dolores Huerta Foundation, Kern Sol News, Jakara Movement, Lideres Campesinas, Unidad Popular Benito Juarez, and Vision Y Compromiso.

In addition to the vaccination clinics being organized by the UAC Coalition, the Kern County Department of Public Health Services’s Facebook page shared a Winter 2021 schedule for upcoming mobile vaccination clinics.
