The Leadership Council released a press release asking community members to attend a community meeting for the housing crisis in Bakersfield.
According to the release between 2013 to 2020, the City permitted only 230 units for affordable housing, compared to 1,226 moderate and high income units.
The Leadership Council states that rent is continuously increasing. There is a shortage of affordable housing and more than half of Bakersfield residents are cost burdened meaning that they pay more than 30% of income for rent.
The City must act now and adopt strategies and policies to protect our communities according to the release.
The community meeting is Tuesday April 26th at 5:30pm at 1000 S. Owens Street, hosted by the City to voice your concerns and share community solutions.
