Since many people skip over the education system when expressing thanks during the holiday season, South Kern Sol went out to see what it is about Kern County schools that students and staff are thankful for.

“I’m thankful for their special education programs because my sister has Down syndrome.”

Hannah Hamm, Senior, Bakersfield High School

“I’m thankful to have an administration that supports teachers. They understand when mistakes happen, that you don’t always get it right on the first try.”

Sergio Espain, Teacher, Bakersfield High School

“I’m thankful that it’s a law for children to go to school. Since education is so underappreciated, if it weren’t a law for students to attend, a lot might stay home.”

Gigi Fotis-Smith, Teacher, Bakersfield High School

“I’m thankful that every child has the chance to come to school no matter what stage of life; rich, poor, black or white, everyone has a chance.”
