Elevating youth voice for health and racial equity
Kern Sol News is a youth-led media outlet located in Kern County. Kern Sol News was launched in 2011 with financial support from The California Endowment and has continued to shine a light on health disparities that exist in under served communities across Kern County. Kern Sol News is a fiscally sponsored project of Community Initiatives.
Kern Sol News is engendering a new generation of youth leaders and communicators engaged with the issues closest to them and their communities. The youth storytellers are making health happen in under served communities in Kern by engaging in conversations with decision makers and by questioning systems and policies that are oppressing communities of color.
Kern Sol News youth take on topics that need to be elevated such as access to safe drinking water at schools, equitable funding for low-income schools, health care access and the importance of having maintained parks in communities of color.
