The California Rural Legal Assistance, along with other local organizations, is hosting the LGBTQ Youth Summit next month.

CRLA is partnering with The Center for Sexuality and Gender Diversity, Bakersfield LGBTQ, Dolores Huerta Foundation, Teacher Education Department, California Teachers Association and Planned Parenthood.

“This is an opportunity for everybody to come together and have a safe space and meet other LGBTQ people in the community, so you don’t feel isolated,” said Gloria Garcia, an LGBTQ community worker at CRLA.

The event features workshops, raffle prizes, a resource fair, food and more.

Workshops include interactive workshops, friendly acceptance workshops and trainings for teachers on LGBTQ inclusive practices, according to Garcia.

“I just want everybody to take away there are resources in the community and help and people who care about you,” Garcia said.

The free event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 16 at Cal State Bakersfield, 9001 Stockdale Highway.
