The 2020 Census is Hiring in Kern County

The deadline to complete the 2020 Census is a little more than six months away and the U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting people to fill open jobs in Kern County.

Open positions include census field supervisor, enumerator/census taker, office clerk, and supervisory staff. The pay range is $17.50 to $18.00 per hour. These jobs are temporary and schedule hours are flexible.

Applying for one of these jobs is simple at 2020census.gov/jobs – here you will find job requirements and an FAQ. You can call the census jobs hotline at 855-JOB-2020 to speak with a person on the jobs hotline to get more information. **Bilingual applicants are needed and are encouraged to apply.

Safety:

In order to protect the health and safety of our workforce and the public, the Census Bureau says it has taken the following safety measures prior to resuming field operations scheduled to begin June 1st:

-Secured Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and sanitizer for field and office staff.

-Conducted deep cleaning of office workspaces.

-Developed mandatory COVID-19 training (outlining steps for staying safe while performing field duties).

-Practicing social distancing, including shift work, in offices.

-Maximizing telework, when possible.

The adjusted deadline for households to fill out the census is October 31st, 2020.
