Delano repeals ordinance that fined residents for gathering

February 1, 2021 /

Just days after it passed, the City of Delano has repealed an ordinance that fined residents for gathering in large groups.

Delano Mayor Bryan Osorio passed an ordinance in early January that allowed city officials to issue fines to residents for partaking in large gatherings, making Delano the first city in Kern County to implement such an action. This ordinance was a response to Governor Newsom’s stay at home order — which has also been repealed.

Osorio wanted to make sure that his city was doing their part in stopping the spread. With this in mind, the ordinance was to last 28 days, and two code enforcement officers had the responsibility of fining citizens not following the ordinance.

Currently, all counties are back on the tier system. Kern County is in the Purple tier, or the most restrictive tier.
