More than half of Kern County is vaccinated as year ends

December 28, 2021 /

According to the Kern County Public Health Services Department, 51.3 percent of Kern County residents have completed their vaccine series.

“As of December 19th, 1,005,625 doses have been administered to Kern County residents. 439,167 people have completed their vaccine series,” said Program Manager and Public Relations Officer, Michelle Corson.

Individuals aged 5 and older are eligible to receive the Pizer-BioNTech vaccine; the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are available to those 18 and older.

“People should get a COVID-19 booster shot six months following their second dose of the two-shot Pizer or Moderna vaccine or two months following their Johnson & Johnson shot. Individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose,” said Corson.

The United Against COVID-19 (UAC) Coalition will continue to bring vaccination clinics to various communities in Kern County.

Due to the holiday season and an increase in positive COVID-19 case rates, California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is requiring universal masking until January 15, 2022. In addition to this, a new travel advisory recommends that all travelers arriving in California test for COVID-19 within three to five days after arrival, regardless of their vaccination status. Those who test positive must follow the public health recommendation guidelines and stay isolated from others.
