Kern County Supervisor Zack Scrivner resigns from office

August 1, 2024 /

Embattled Kern County Supervisor Zack Scrivner submitted his resignation in a letter to David Couch, the chairman of the Kern County Board of Supervisors. Scrivener has been under investigation by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office since April on suspicion that he sexually assaulted one of his children at the family’s home in Tehachapi.

The investigation is ongoing and Scrivner has not been charged.

In his letter, Scrivner writes, “I am resigning for significant health and medical issues,” but does not mention any accusations against him. In April, Kern County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call reporting that Scrivner was “having a psychotic episode” and was armed with a gun. At a news conference on April 25, Sheriff Donny Youngblood said Scrivner had been stabbed twice by one of his children who was defending the sibling being assaulted.

Scrivner has not been seen since and his whereabouts remain unknown. Scrivner’s resignation is effective August 2. Below is Scrivner’s letter of resignation.
