Community raises concerns over Earlimart School District’s spending and layoffs

February 24, 2025 /

Through a post shared on social media by Delano Life, community members were able to read in detail what parents, teachers, and families are asking from the Earlimart School District.

The document highlights data from the school district’s recent staff cuts, student success, and budget. According to the document, 13 teachers were laid off due to budget cuts, yet the Earlimart School District is shown to have $25,004,707 in its savings account, causing confusion as to why there was a need to fire that many teachers.

Earlimart currently serves three schools: Alila Elementary, Earlimart Elementary, and Earlimart Middle School, and has been ranked the lowest in Tulare County, as a decrease in enrollment for the previous school year was noted.

Despite the fact that Earlimart has three institutions in the respected area, they still do not meet the California academic standards. The previous academic year they had a 15.5% for the ELPAC, and 44 teachers have left Earlimart in the past five years. With the recent layoffs of staff, and teacher aids, 100% of students’ educations are being affected due to teacher loss and higher class sizes.

The school district has not yet made any budget cuts in the administration and management departments as they have spent $2,552,782 in the funding of these services. Proving that no funding has been placed on the educational resources for Earlimart students.
