Organizations Hosting Thanksgiving Food Giveaways

November 25, 2025 /

As the holiday season approaches, Kern Sol sought out organizations across Kern County that provide food services and resources during this time of year.

Several organizations have already begun their efforts, including Catholic Charities in Bakersfield. Catholic Charities is preparing for its annual turkey and meal supply giveaway, which will take place from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27, at 825 Chester Avenue.

During the event, staff will also provide attendees with information about early education programs, family support services, and other social resources. The organization aims to ensure families are aware of available support while simultaneously working to address Kern County’s food insecurity during the holiday season.

In addition to Catholic Charities, organizations such as the Blessing Corner and the Mission at Kern County are offering community dinners on Thanksgiving Day to give residents the opportunity to share a warm meal.

The Mission at Kern County, located at 821 E. 21st Street, will serve its Thanksgiving meal from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27. The free dinner is open to all members of the community, and the Mission will also distribute free coats while supplies last. Volunteers interested in participating are asked to arrive at 10:00 a.m. for meal preparation and a brief orientation.

Similarly, the Blessing Corner will provide a free community Thanksgiving meal in two formats: a walk-up option for those seeking food assistance and a sit-down meal for attendees who prefer to dine on site. Located at 101 Union Avenue, the Blessing Corner will host its annual event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers are still needed; those interested can visit https://theblessingcorner.com/ for more information.

Efforts to address holiday food insecurity also extend beyond traditional sit-down dinners. On Thursday morning, volunteers with the Bakersfield Burrito Project will gather at their kitchen to prepare burritos for distribution. The organization will begin its meal outreach at 1315 30th Street from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Supplies are still needed, and information about donating can be found at https://bakoburrito.org/.

Across Kern County, these organizations are working to ensure that the community has access not only to food but also to connection and essential resources during this year’s Thanksgiving holiday. Their efforts extend far beyond the season, reflecting a daily commitment to identifying the needs of Kern County residents and working to address them one resource at a time.
