Sol on the Street: What should the Biden Administration prioritize during its first 100 days in office

February 1, 2021 /

With a new administration taking over the Presidency, many people are hopeful, while many other are skeptical.

President Biden has already committed to addressing Covid-19 response, immigration, climate change, economic recovery, taxes and overturning former President Trump’s actions.

Kern Sol News reached out to Delano residents to hear what they have to say about the new administration, and what they think the administration should prioritize in the first 100 days in office. Here’s what they had to say:

Esmeralda Lopez

“Definitely provide economic relief to families amid the pandemic and stricter guidelines to control the spread once and for all and of course. (Also), hold him accountable for his promises to create a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients and other undocumented folks. Of course, there is a lot more he should focus on as well, but I would say those are the ones he should prioritize at the beginning of his term.”

Daria King

“Firstly, I think the president should focus on Abortion Laws because no woman should be forced to make decisions about her body. Then, Immigration laws/ICE because they need to do better for the people who do a lot for this country, health care and wages. We have to start looking into how we can do better for people who work hard, given how hard it is to make a living out here. Especially the way they handled Covid-19 pay. There has to be something our president can do.”

Emily Gorospe

“He should prioritize making a plan to start reopening schools. Along with school reopening, students need sports as an outlet. Vaccines need to be prioritized as well.”

— Emily Gorospe

Aaron Islam

“Personally, I think that Covid should be a major focus right now. I’m talking about getting the amount of cases we have to as low as possible and making sure as many vaccines are being distributed as possible.”

— Aaron Islam

Jaqueline Sanchez

“I strongly believe jobs should start opening up, because people need to work and get back to reality. COVID is a virus, but we still have to keep going. By sending us money, we are just becoming lazy.”

— Jaqueline Sanchez

Fatima Ramos

“I think he should prioritize the economy first. I’m stating this because there’s so many things going on with stimulus checks and in the month of February tax season starts so definitely he should prioritize the economy’s stability.”

— Fatima Ramos

Salvador Solorio-Ruiz

“COVID-19 (providing relief/vaccines) and immigration specifically stopping all deportations and coming up with a plan to reunite parents with their children at the border.”
