October 8, 2019 /

The Kern Education Justice Collaborative is inviting parents, teachers and students its first “Schools Reimagined” Education Equity Summit this weekend.

The “Schools Reimagined” education equity summit seeks to bring community members together to learn about how to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline and to “set a powerful vision to create a healthier and more positive school climate for all of our students in Kern County.”

Guest speakers include Amir Whitaker, an American Civil Liberties Union attorney and researcher for the University of California, Los Angeles Civil Rights Project, and Tia Martinez, the executive director for Forward Change, a mission-driven consulting firm that helps foundations, community-based organizations and government agencies improve the lives of children, young adults and families living in disadvantaged communities

The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 12 at The Marriott. Those interested in attending can register here. Childcare, interpretation and entertainment will be provided.
