Ja’Nell Gore, Youth Perspective
It means dealing with ignorance every day till it seems as if you hear nothing else from people.
We are happy to launch our newest edition of In the 661: Youth Voices for Kern… in this special edition we’ll be highlighting local youth storytellers who are using their voice to change the narrative of how decision makers see health in our community.
How wicked a lifestyle we endure.
We awake to sorrow, an angle’s fallen agony,
filling the earth’s surface.
A bright night hits the ocean waves.
Ocean currents hit the soft sand.
I sit next to its bed, full of advantage and comfort,
it has made me endure.

Hate what a simple word
Hate a word that will dismay many
Hate is for the reason that many kill
All for in the name of hate
We were taught to be compassionate and loving
To treat our neighbors the way we want to be treated
With hate?
By GIBRAN MONCAYO/South Kern Sol
Love, ahh love what a wonderful word
The truth is that it wasn’t l o v e
It was just an illusion
Tricks up your sleeve and nothing up mine
See hearts break and are malleable
So I tried to change yours
Instead mine got torn
Ahhh love, love
Me
Never will you?
By GIBRAN MONCAYO/South Kern Sol
Do you mean everything you say?
Every line, word (you’ve said that’s) based on us, being together till the end.
Symphony Of Sorrow
Life is nothing but a symphony
With all it’s notes
All of us living are but instruments
And it’s conductor not seen but felt
Like the notes that are heard
Love is just but the composing of the composer
With its mystical wonders
It amazed yet nullifies
But if the sound is strong so can it live on
But as music fades and the instruments get put away
The only thing putting it back together is the orchestra and the conductor
Love is but a piece that only god drew us to and that destiny put back together
And the symphony lives forever
By Gibran ‘Gibz’ Moncayo/South Kern Sol
Days and days go by
Roses wither away, red to black
The petals which once represented something much more are now ashes
Destroyed but not by fire but by your own hand
Leaves fall off trees yet they live
What about this?
Feeling pain is the worst thing.
Especially when you’re a teenage kid.
Pain came from within all of us.
