Local coalition’s vaccination clinics successful turnout continues

December 7, 2021 /

This past weekend, the United Against COVID-19 Coalition hosted multiple vaccination clinics that turned out to be a great success.

On Friday, December 3, there was a vaccine clinic in Lamont at the David Head Center. More than 50 people were able to receive their COVID-19 vaccination. Some community members received their booster and others were getting their first dose.

Gladis Flores, Community Organizer, describes how—with everyone’s help— they were able to spread word about upcoming vaccine clinics. Social media, canvassing, and flyers in grocery stores were of great help to spread word.

“I think it was a great turn out,” said Flores. “I love that organizations came out here today, and they handed as much information as they could for the community of Lamont, since it is a rural area. I do believe that we need events like this in our community so it can be better served.”

There was an additional clinic on Sunday, December 5, at Rexland Acres Park in Bakersfield. This vaccination clinic helped 87 community members receive their vaccine.

Guadalupe Anaya, Lamont resident, came to get her booster vaccine. She says that the organizations are perfect and it is a great way to reach out to communities.

“I came to get vaccinated for everyone to be better,” said Anaya. “Everyone should get vaccinated for the good of the family, the kids, adults, and everyone to take care of one another.”

Rosa Grajeda, Lamont resident, is glad that organizations get together to help out rural communities. She came to get her booster vaccine as well.

“This is really good for the community,” said Grajeda. “More people should come to get vaccinated.”

Fortunata Morales, Lamont resident, came to get her 2nd Pfizer vaccine. She believes that these vaccination clinics are impacting the community in a positive way.

“I think this is good because that way we protect one another,” said Morales.
