City invites public to a community meeting to shape the future of Niles and Monterey Streets

November 3, 2023 /

With efforts to provide complete streets, safety, and mobility improvements along Niles Street and Monterey Street, the City of Bakersfield will be holding a community meeting in order to gather input on their Niles and Monterey Complete Streets Project (NiMo).

The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7 at the Boys & Girls Club located at 801 Niles Street in Bakersfield. Childcare services and food will be provided.

The NiMo project is a community-driven project that was initiated from the Monterey/Niles Prosperity Neighborhood Summit that was held in 2022 after working with stakeholders to identify key challenges and opportunities to improve the area.

The project is currently in its design phase and has a focus on creating a safer corridor that will encourage multi-modal transportation through the addition of a cycle track, enhanced signage and striping, curb extensions, and other traffic calming elements.

The November 7 meeting will allow City staff and their consultant, Kimley-Horn and Associates, to present their current vision and design strategies for this corridor.

The City is inviting the public to join them at this meeting to provide community input that can be incorporated into the project as they move forward with the design process.
