The Home Depot in Delano and various other Kern County locations offer a free workshop for kids on the first Saturday of each month. This Saturday, September 2, kids can come and build their own microscope. This free workshop is designed for kids ages 4-12, but all ages are welcome.
Kids will not only get to build their own microscope but will also analyze a variety of real samples using a magnifying glass.
Delilah, a resident of Delano and a mother of three, says she brings her kids to this every month because not only do they learn building skills, but they also have fun.
“I have a four-year-old and a six-year-old who love coming to Home Depot and doing these activities. All the materials are provided for the kids and they even give them an apron to take home,” said Delilah. “The staff is very friendly and very helpful with the kids. That is one of the things I also like because they make the kids want to be there.”
These hands-on workshops offer kids a chance to learn skills they can use in the future.
Delilah’s son, Max, said he really enjoys these moments he gets to spend with his mom and brother.
“I have a lot of fun building what they give us with my brother. My mom likes to help us sometimes, but we know what we’re doing. My favorite project that I have done is when we got to build a birdhouse. My mom put it in the backyard on one of the trees and we put food in there and sometimes birds go in there,” said Max. “When I grow up I want to be able to build tables and chairs for mom so that she can also put those in the backyard for us to use.”
